Since I'm so rarely around to post anymore, I know you are all just dying to know what I am doing these days. Well, I work, I ride, I carry a lot of water (all the troughs are frozen because of the current weather conditions, so my evening work out is carrying water buckets for 8-12 horses), I watch TV, mostly DVDs (just finished Over There, now I'm starting JAG). And I watch my shows, though it seems as if every year there are fewer and fewer shows I watch.
Here are the shows I'm currently following:
NCIS
The love keeps growing stronger! NCIS is still "my" show. I love it. It keeps getting better, and I have finally reached a point where I trust the writers so much that no matter what they do, I'm pretty certain I will continue to watch and love. I mean, they killed off two main characters over the years, people taht I liked, they spilt up the team, they split up Tony and Gibbs, they had Ziva leave and there's more. All those things were decisions that I got rather upset about when I heard the spoilers, but that turned out alright when they actually happened.
Just take the episode with Tony's father - Tony's relationship with his father, Gibbs meeting Tony's father, both are things that Gibbs/DiNozzo fandom is rather obsessed about. And when they finally showed it on tv, it could have gone wrong on so many levels, but they got it completely, perfectly right.
I hardly ever talk about NCIS anymore, but that's mostly because I love it so much, and I like what they so much that I don't have anything to say about it, except, I love it. So, rest assured, if you are here for the NCIS love, it's still burning bright.
NCIS LA
I was more than sceptical about NCIS LA. In fact, after the first episode, I was going to stop watching. Boy, am I glad I didn't. NCIS LA is on its way to become one of my favourite shows yet. It's different from NCIS, and it's just the right amount of different. It's brighter, more colorful, obviously targeting a younger audience, but I like that it doesn't try to be NCIS. I know it could never replace the original. But I like it for what it is, and of course I like that they wrote Callen for me, because if they had asked me to make a profile of a special agent that I want to see on TV, it would have been Callen.
Good looks, pain, mystery and a secret past?
So I'm easy. (but apparently I'm not the only one).
I was also surprised that I really liked LL Cool J as Sam Hanna. Since when is that guy an actor anyway, I thought. Turns out that even if he isn't much of an actor, he is really convincing in this role. And yes, I know they are playing the Hanna/Callen chemistry for us slash fans, and it's making me feel a bit cheap for falling for it, but I still do. I still think they have tons of chemistry, and I'm loving it. In my mind, nothing ever happens between them for at least three years, but in the meantime, Callen can keep getting hurt, and Sam can keep picking him up, and I'll be happy watching them.
The only thing that I seriously HATE about NCIS LA is Hetty. She is a caricature, and not a good one. If they were trying to find a Ducky-equivalent, they couldn't have done a worse job.
Somebody needs to shoot her, fast. Unlikely, although with this being NCIS (LA), unlikely choices do happen. Let's hope and pray, because I find myself hating her so much that I fastforward through her scenes.
Please tell me I'm not the only one.
Doctor Who
I couldn't stop watching as long as David Tennant was the Doctor. His pain was just too beautiful for me not to watch. Now that there's a new Doctor, I'm not so sure if I'll keep watching. Though I'll probably end up giving it a try and then being stuck with it anyway. We'll see.
Desperate Housewives
I loved DH this year. And I stopped watching DH this year.
I loved the Bree/Karl storyline. No surprise there, I love Richard Burgi and I love Bree. The rest of the housewives I found myself caring less and less about with every season, with positive hate for Susan, and now I've reached a point where I really couldn't care less, and Karl's dead, so good-bye, show, here's where we part.
Brothers & Sisters
When I first watched Brothers & Sisters, I feel for it hard. Then I told
margueritem about my new show and while telling her what it was about, I realized that it was a soap opera (in fact, we were in a cafe in W. and I suddenly went "OMG I'm watching a soap opera!" It was a bit embarassing.)
I still like B&S, though I'm beginning to like it less. I hate Kitty. I never liked her much, but I'm beginning to really hate her. Couldn't she have died? Then Rob Lowe would have been a single dad and he could have dated (me), and everything would have been better. As it is, the opposite is rumored to be happening. Rob Lowe apparently wants to leave the show because his characters is underused (I'll say), and Kitty wants less screentime, probably because she couldn't get them so pay her more, so now she tries to work less for the same amount of money.
While less Kitty is a good thing, no Rob Lowe is a very bad thing.
I guess that leaves the rest of the cast. I still love Nora, I completely adore Scotty, I like Kevin and Sarah. I like Rebecca and Justin, but not together. I am really tired of Justin's epic fail of med school. There's not enough of a story in there for it not to be wrapped up yet.
In other words, Brothers&Sisters will likely not make the cut this year. I haven't made up my mind if I will watch the rest of the season yet, but I highly doubt that I'll watch another season. Though, if they continue like this, I doubt they'll be renewed anyway.
Bones
Love Bones. I like every character on the show, and I love how even though it's a crime scene procedural, they have somehow managed to never make the cases boring or repeat themselves. I also love that even though Booth is the big bad hero, he's really a dork at heart, and he fully acknowledges it. God, and was he hot or was he hot when he shot that melon with that old gun in last weeks ep?
Funny, I stopped watching Angel because I hated Boreanaz as the happy(er) vampire (I only liked him unhappy and brooding). Now I love him because he smiles so much. He has really surprised me as an actor in this one.
Anyway, loving Bones, it will definitely stay on my must-watch list.
Castle
As always, I'm late to the party, but now that I'm here, I'm having the time of my life. Castle is filled with happy squee, and Nathan Fillion is completely adorable. Castle my new happy place.
The Mentalist
When Castle is my new happy place, The Mentalist is the exact opposite (did you know that when you change the ps and the os in opposite, it reads poopsite? I'm just telling you because I made exactly that typo just know, and I really don't think Freud has anything to do with it. I hope. I wonder what Jane would say.)
The Mentalist looks bright and sunny, but it's dark and filled with pain. And I love it. I love Simon Baker so much that it hurts. Or rather, I love his character so much that it hurts. But he also scares me a little. Patrick Jane seemingly cares about ony thing and one thing only - killing Red John. Yes, he also cares about the team and about solving other murders, but that sometimes seems to be just a game for him. And
I love how Simon Baker plays with this - the sudden changes from a friendly, yet inquiring question to a witness - and then the sudden mood swing when his suspicion has been confirmed. The hardness in his eyes when he sees something he doesn't like, when he disagrees with someone.
I'm really excited about this show and I hope that it has a long run. I also hope that people will start writing in this fandom - how can you see all that pain and not write about it?
*sigh*
If this were set in space, people would be all over it.
Leverage
Leverage may well be my favourite show at the moment. I guess if I had to choose between Leverage and NCIS, NCIS would still win, but as long as I have both, I may just as well admit that I love Leverage maybe a little more. But just a tiny little bit, really.
Leverage definitely keeps getting better. Nate has stopped drinking, which should be boring, but isn't. Because instead of drunken, happy, carefree Nate, we suddenly have sober, unhappy, control-freak Nate. I like both.
So does Elliott, who will without doubt soon admit his love for Nate. Ok, maybe not really, but it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that I slash those two.
Parker is adorable but so caught up in finally getting the hang of how to interact with other people (notice that I write "how to interact", not "how to interact normally") that she doesn't see that Nate is a disaster waiting to happen. She is worried about him, yes, but I don't think she sees how serious it is the way that Elliott does. Parker still trusts Nate, but I think Elliott suspects that one day soon Nate is going to put them into a situation that they can't get themselves out of. And him being Elliott, he probably prepares for just that.
Hardison seems to be generally happy this season, but sadly doesn't get enough screentime. Well, Elliott will soon recruit him for the "Rescue Nate from putting us all in dager mission". And then hopefully Sophie will come back, and everything will turn out fine.
Uhm, okay, those weren't spoilers, but pure speculation. Did I mention that I completely LOVE Leverage?
Supernatural
Last, but not least, Supernatural. Which, while maybe not getting better and better, as it has steadily done since the very first episode, has reached a level of brilliant that it now steadily keeps. I love it. I have many many things to say about it, but this post has already gotten a little out of hand, so I'll stop here.
Who knew I was watching so many shows? I though I was being reasonable this year. Hmm.
So, what have you guys been up to? :-)
Here are the shows I'm currently following:
