...because we all us math everyday. So, tell me, have you all done your daily weather predictions?

Now that I've finally noticed Colby, I rewatched some of Numb3rs season 2, to notice him and his arms some more. Yesterday I was kind of distracted by the arm porn, but I didn't pay much attention to his character. [livejournal.com profile] miriam_heddy pointed out a few things about him that made me wonder what kind of person he is.

In the first episode of season 2 ("Judgement Call", the one where the judge's wife gets shot at the beginning), he acts rather stupid when he and David are sent to question a suspect, and David doesn't back him up. Colby snaps at him for that and then complains to Don.

Actually, Don says "Colby was just here bitching about you." Interesting that he calls it "bitching", don't you think? Though I don't think that it reflects his opinion about Colby, just about the situation that David and Colby come to Don to complain, instead of working things out themselves.

Anyway, Davd complains about Colby:
"This guy is running hot. Colby has this army mentality. He thinks everybody is a private who has to follow orders. He goes in too hard."
And Don says:
"You were the new guy last year and you were too laid back. Took you too long to take initiative. You got better, you improved."

So, what do I make of this little conversation:

a) Don knows what Colby is like, that he needs to be shown his limits. But he obviously thinks he is a good agent who will improve if he is shown how.

b) Don had some talks with David about his performance last year, which explains David's new cool guy attitude.

c) There is probably a reason that Don pairs Colby and David together that often (other than that David and Don broke up, I mean). He knows that David will hold Colby back if he starts to cross the line, but maybe he is also hoping that Colby will provide the edge that David is sometimes missing.

d) Don really is their superior and they come to him with these things. My and my authority figure kink like that very much. I knew of course that Don was teh senior agent and is in charge of his team, making the decisions, but I never really noticed. He has a very laid back way of being in charge, he lets other do their thing, trusting them to do it right. Of course he gives orders as well and tells them what to do, but he chose people whom he can trust to obey these orders without supervision.

For Colby's sake, I can only hope that he doesn't screw up, because I really don't think that is something Don would take very well. Maybe I do need to rewatch this week's ep, because I can't remember if Don knew about the stolen picture. I'm guessing he sees that David isn't enough to hold Colby back anymore, that's why he send Meghan with him, who is not afraid to order Colby around a bit herself. If Numb3rs were the show I'd like it to be, they'd make more out of this, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Another thing that I noted is that on at least two occasions, Colby arrives at Charlie's office saying that Don send him there. And if Don sends Colby to see his little brother, he cannot be a bad guy, right? Just "running a little too hot." There should be more Charlie/Colby slash, if onyl because it'd piss Don off. *g*

Random other observations:
The things that keep me watching this show are the Eppes family interactions, and Larry, always, but especially when he helps Charlie with a problem. The way he just points Charlie towards a flaw in his logic and then says "Go on" and marvels at the beauty that is Charlie's brain... I wish they'd show Larry giving a lecture some day.
*adores Larry*
